Medieval Tour & Flying
Yesterday I was at a very windy Peckforton Castle for a tour and flying session for a class of Year 3 and Year 4 children from a school in Chester. The theme for the visit was ‘medieval’. I took the children on a tour of the castle to see it’s amazing features and then we escaped the weather and went into the chapel for a talk about falconry in medieval times. The children got to hold and fly a range of birds as well as learning about the history of the castle and the importance the falconer in the royal household. They especially liked the gruesome facts about ‘a pound of flesh’ and meeting Paco, our eagle. It was a pleasure to be with the staff and children, who were so interested and asked questions that certainly kept me on my toes.
