Walk with a Hawk at Shropshire Falconry

Shropshire’s biggest Falconry Experience company can offer you the time of your life, with a Hawk Walk in the lovely surroundings of either Hawkstone Park Follies, Soulton Hall, or the lovely grounds of Chirk Castle. We also offer Gift Vouchers so you can let you Loved ones or Friends enjoy the day as well.

What is a Hawk Walk

Hawk Walks are available all year round, this is the perfect introduction for adults and children to the ancient art of falconry. Take a walk through the beautiful Shropshire countryside with these amazing birds. The hawks will follow you through the woods and fields and glide back to your gloved fist when called. We use Harris hawks for this event as they are a very gregarious bird and actually seek out our company as we walk around. On multiple group or family bookings we will use more than 1 bird at a time.

When you book a Hawk Walk that walk is yours you will not share that walk anyone outside of your
party. This makes for a much more relaxed and personal experience and of course means you get plenty of ‘bird time’

The experience starts when we meet at the agreed venue on your booking form.  We will run through
the usual safety procedures, and show you how to handle the hawks, over a tea or coffee in our training room. Then it’s off to a private area  for your experience.

You will then be given a glove and we will start the walk. As our falconers are keen naturalists we will be able to point out some of the wildlife and birds we often bump into on our way around. Ravens, Woodpeckers, Buzzards, Ketrels, Peregrines, even the Red Kite has made an appearance recently at our site.

As we walk we will explain how we look after the birds, how we exercise and train them, a little of the history of Falconry. The walk will take between 60-90 minutes and will be over farm and woodland so a reasonable level of fitness is needed. When we arrive back there will be another photo opportunity for you as you feed the bird on your fist.

Please be sure to bring the appropriate clothing, layers are best and should include good boots or wellies, rain jacket. Do not forget your camera as there will be plenty of opportunities to get that ‘bird in flight’ or bird alighting on your hand shot. Fury collars and mittens are to be avoided for obvious reasons.
